Risks involved in the Process of Tattoo Removal

If you take into consideration the present cultural and fashion trends, you would find that body art is topping the charts these days. There are many magazine and newspaper columns, shops and salons and television chat shows devoted to this particular topic. Though it is a very trendy practice and quite impressive a thing to do but many people are no longer happy with their body art because they feel that it no more matches with their lives.

Those who seem to be unhappy and dissatisfied should start thinking about how to remove their tattoos. There are several reasons which might force people to get a tattoo removal done. First and foremost, those people who have the name of their ex-boyfriend or girlfriend inscribed on their body wouldn’t want to have it anymore after they have fallen apart. Those people, whose tattoos might have faded over time, would want a removal than getting it re-inked.

You should begin by consulting a dermatologist who holds knowledge and is certified to perform the act of tattoo removal. If the tattoo is a large one then would take quite sometime to remove it. Larger tattoos can’t be removed in a single sitting. Also, if the tattoo is new, it would be easier to remove it than a tattoo which has been inscribed long time back.

Also, the condition of the tattoo has to be taken into consideration. For people who stay out in the sun for long hours, chances are that their tattoos will be more faded than the ones who stay mostly indoors. One not knowing might think that such a faded tattoo would be easier to remove but it isn’t actually so. It would be all the more difficult because the pigment has dispersed throughout the skin tissue.

Another point to note is how tactfully and skillfully was the tattoo inscribed. If the tattoo had been applied uniformly, that is, if the ink is evenly distributed it would be easier to remove than the tattoo which has unevenly distributed ink.

There a two main ways in which a tattoo can be removed. One of the most common techniques is that of laser tattoo removal. In this technique, laser light penetrates through the upper layers of the epidermis, where lies the ink of the tattoo. The ink gets dispersed by the heat of the laser beam and evaporates slowly over a period of few months.

A more controversial method is the application of TCA over the tattooed area. This chemical is applied by means of a cotton ball and its primary function is to eat away the upper epidermal layer until the tattoo is gone completely. This isn’t a very safe practice as it may give way to extensive scarring and allergic reactions.

You are free to choose any of the above methods but one should bear in mind the risk that either of these methods involves. Though a local anesthetic is applied during each removal session but it is quite painful. People who have gone through the process refer to it as small pulses of burns. Thus one should think several times before getting a tattoo inscribed on his/her body.
